I was looking for a bookcase or ideas on how to convert a dresser to a bookcase with a little DIY.

Then I see a link to a blog post all about how you need to style your bookcase...

Style it.

Style it?!

You don't style a bookcase with vases and frames and knick knacks!
You fill it with BOOKS!

Styling done!

I style my bookcase by doubling the books so one set is in front of the other. NO, wait, that's not styling, that's running out of room for books. ;-)

The reason I was looking at bookcases on google was because I need one. I used to have hundreds of books but then I moved and got rid of most of them. But now I've started collecting again and was just trying to get an idea about what I wanted.

But most of the posts had pictures of bookcases with almost no books in them and just lots of knick knacks.

How desperately sad and terribly common

Hi: I agree it's terribly depressing. I've noticed for years, in pics and real life, how many people and homes have bookcases filled with things that aren't books. How can this be?

Is it terrible that I sometimes find myself taking someone a bit less seriously, based on this single fact? I once rented an apartment only because it had built in bookcases, since I only had 2 of my own at the time. After unpacking, I just immediately go to "Look, there's more room for books. Let's go to the used book store!"

People don't read, anymore. I'm absolutely certain this is a sign of things going wrong on a fundamental level. And now I sound like my mother. Darn, she's been proven right, again! Heavy sigh.

It's called a bookcase for a reason.

The last numbers I saw here in Denmark showed that people do read a lot, at least here in Denmark. I just think people don't buy as many books as they used to. They read e-books or borrow at the library.

I tend to borrow from the library more often than buy outright nowadays.

Vegetable beef soup made with all the leftovers from the holiday and a loaf of fresh homemade bread and homemade herb butter.

I'm with dragonyphoenix, double books with extras stuffed in wherever there is room on top of the others and spilling off with extras stacked on the floor around it so it blends in with the rest of the room.

Books always make a home seem a little more real and lived in to me :)
